Always Be Ready

A couple of Sabbaths ago, I was throwing away my plate and putting my dirty silverware in the sink after potluck. As I was going back to sit with my sister, a lady- we'll call her Anna- stopped me. She asked me what caused my sister's cerebral palsy, because it concerned someone close to her.   I did my best to explain... but I was so inadequate! "My Mom can explain it better than me", was all I could say. I felt so stupid! I couldn't even explain what cerebral palsy was!

This incident reminded of when we witness. I don't want to be caught off my guard- unable to explain what I believe. I don't want to have to be ever referring others to someone else because they "can explain it better than me"! "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15.

"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:" 1 Peter 3:15. May we all be ready to give an answer to everyone a reason for our faith- at any time!

Bowing Walls and Tottering Fences

Photo courtesy of: learn.corel.com "How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence." Psalm 62:3     I know it may sound depressing, but what are bowing walls and tottering fences like? They are weak. According to this verse we can be like that, too. But, what  makes us weak? Because they "imagine mischief against a man". That word mischief also means evil or iniquity . Any time we think anything bad about others, it makes us weaker. It has been said that speaking (or even thinking) evil about others does not make them, but ourselves, more evil. May we each pray, "Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer." Psalm 19:14.

GOD is Love

"The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, [saying], Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee." Jeremiah 31:3  " 'GOD is love' is written upon every opening bud, upon every spire of springing grass. The lovely birds making the air vocal with their happy songs, the delicately tinted flowers in their perfection perfuming the air, the lofty trees of the forest with their rich foliage of living green- all testify to the tender, fatherly care of our GOD and to His desire to make His children happy."  - Steps to Christ, "GOD'S Love for Man"; pgs. 6,7.  "GOD is love". I have heard it often, as well as the fact that nature greatly testifies to it. But, I must admit I never fully understood it, (and still do not) until recently. Often GOD is looked upon as a tyrant, an unmerciful and exacting judge. We know GOD is not like this, yet how often we fall for satan's lies! When we look ...

"Give Ye Them to Eat"

The account of the five loaves and two fishes is an amazing story! Imagine being in a secluded area with five thousand men to feed (not including however many women and children must have been there!), and you only have five loaves and two fishes! What would you do? When this happened to the disciples, they just wanted to send all of the people away. But Jesus told them, " Give ye them to eat " (Luke 9:13). The disciples responded by saying, " We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people" (verse 13). Jesus then told the disciples to have all of the people sit down in companies of fifty. Then taking the loaves and fishes, He blessed them, and gave them back to the disciples. Then the disciples gave it to the people. Afterwards, from the multiplied five loaves and two fishes, they took up twelve baskets of fragments! It's the same with us really. We may feel that we nothing to share with people. Or...
