"All Things are Possible"

"Mommy, GOD's going to heal my eyes. I'm not going to wear these glasses forever!" Imagine my mother's surprise at my bold statement. Five years old with a degenerative eye disease. Destined to go blind.

It must have started with me saying I was having a hard time seeing, but my mom brought to the eye doctor for a check-up. I don't remember too much other than sitting in the chair in the examination room, looking at the strange posters about the eye while Mom and the eye doctor talked about degenerative eye diseases and how "it runs in the family". Not being sure his diagnosis was correct, he sent me to a specialist. His suspicions were confirmed: I did have a degenerative eye disease. I don't remember much (it was about 11 years ago!), but finally the day came when I got my first pair of glasses- with a stronger prescription than my own mother's! As I was about to get in the car, I turned to my mother and told her I wasn't going to wear them forever.

During the next year, appointments with the eye doctor were frequent (or at least it seemed that way to me). I outgrew my first pair of glasses and got a second pair. My eyes stayed the same. Then they started getting better! One day I lost my glasses on the day of an eye doctor's appointment. "You have to find them, Katie!" My mom was worried. "But I can see, Mom!" Who cared about the glasses? I could see just fine without them! We looked and looked, but didn't find them, so we just went to the appointment.

At the appointment, I remember the eye doctor looking at my eyes through the phoropter. He checked them once, then looked at my mom. He checked them again, and looked at my mom a second time. He checked my eyes again, and looked at my mom for the third time! Then he said in amazement,  "I don't know what you're doing, but keep doing it."

Who would have thought! I no longer need to wear glasses, and I don't wear contacts. My eyes were 60/80- now they are 20/30! A miracle indeed- one only GOD could do!

                                                                              ---

GOD is not just interested in healing our physical eyes, more than that He is interested in healing our spiritual eyes- moreover, He's interested in helping us in everything! If we but have faith to believe, He will answer. He will even help us to believe, if we ask. We can go to Him with all our requests, problems, whatever it may be, for "all things are possible to him that believeth." Mark 9:23
"And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." Matthew 21:22

Faith

By faith, as wandering pilgrims here, We sojourn in this vale of tears, It points us to His coming, near, That ends our sighs, and groans, and fears, Though raging hosts of foes assail, The conqueror’s trophies, won, will be; Through sword and flame we shall prevail By faith, and gain the victory!   Though clouds and tempests, hovering near, May o’er thy pathway seem to frown, It bids them quickly disappear, And brings the promised blessing down. It breaks the bands that round thee cling- From sin and bondage sets thee free, To rise on its triumphant wing, And shout, by faith, the victory!                                                  Faith, living faith, ascends the skies, To Christ, within the seco...

A Little Word

Amy Carmichael and two little girls  One evening in India, Amy Carmichael and one of the Dohnavur nurses-in-training, Kohila, were walking by the water when a young man shyly approached them. "Do you remember me?" he asked. "I used to come to the children's meetings under the tamarind tree." With that he proceeded to sing song after song, and recite text after text. The power of song! Who would have thought! On other occasions, many a man and woman said that they were drawn by the Dohnavur children's singing. "It was the young children's singing that drew me to want to hear the Gospel, and also their happiness."   On another occasion, there was a little five year old saved from the evils of being a temple girl. Lala was a gentle girl, of a yielding disposition. Not long after she was rescued, though, the father gave them trouble. Friends telegraphed that he demanded her back. He was not a good man, and his actions were not prompted b...

The Artist's Eye

Mandarin Duck Artists are often said to be their own worst critics. Maybe it's because we see all the defects that no one else seems to notice. We see the misaligned eyes, the crooked nose; we know what didn't come out just as we had planned. But aside from that, I believe the Great Master Artist has an artist's eye, too- albeit in a different sense. Here is an interesting quote from The Desire of Ages , p. 826: "Tell the people of Him who is 'the Chiefest among ten thousand,' and the One 'altogether lovely.' The Song of Solomon 5:10, 16. Words alone cannot tell it. Let it be reflected in the character and manifested in the life. Christ is sitting for His portrait in every disciple. Every one God has predestinated to be 'conformed to the image of His Son.' Romans 8:29. In every one Christ's long-suffering love, His holiness, meekness, mercy, and truth are to be manifested to the world." King James Version American S...
