Fight Each Battle, LORD

Fight each battle, LORD! I am too weak to win! Thou hast all power To deliver me from sin. I cannot free nor disentangle Myself from Satan's snares! I need Thee to keep me from the foe, So I will not fall unawares. Gird me in Thy armor, LORD! Each piece place on me now; Grant me the sword, the shield, all; And Thy helmet on my brow. Keep me meek and humble, LORD! A contrite and broken heart please give! Help me to stay always at Thy side, To forever in Thy presence live.

A Little Word

Amy Carmichael and two little girls  One evening in India, Amy Carmichael and one of the Dohnavur nurses-in-training, Kohila, were walking by the water when a young man shyly approached them. "Do you remember me?" he asked. "I used to come to the children's meetings under the tamarind tree." With that he proceeded to sing song after song, and recite text after text. The power of song! Who would have thought! On other occasions, many a man and woman said that they were drawn by the Dohnavur children's singing. "It was the young children's singing that drew me to want to hear the Gospel, and also their happiness."   On another occasion, there was a little five year old saved from the evils of being a temple girl. Lala was a gentle girl, of a yielding disposition. Not long after she was rescued, though, the father gave them trouble. Friends telegraphed that he demanded her back. He was not a good man, and his actions were not prompted b...

Go Farther

Photo courtesy of: www.jpupdates.com.  In June, I had the opportunity to go Piedmont Valley Youth Bible Camp in Virginia with some friends. I was gone for about 11 days- the longest I ever remember being away from home, and definitely the longest without any family with me. We left at 5:00 am and drove the approximately 13 hours down- which was rather interesting. We started out on a Friday, stopped at a hotel and rested on the Sabbath, and were on our way again on Sunday. We arrived safely at camp, without incident. I had a great time! I slept in a tent for the first time. 10 people were in my unit- 2 counselors and 8 girls. 5 of us were in one tent... so we were squished together like a can of sardines. We were told we had 2 1/2 minutes to take showers. Then there was Line-call, every day, four times a day. The food was good. Chinese class was interesting. Don't forget morning exercises with Mr. Shen... ...

All That Pass By, To Jesus Draw Near

All that pass by, To Jesus draw near, He utters a cry, Ye sinners, give ear! From hell to retrieve you He spreads out his hands; Now, now to receive you, He graciously stands. If any man thirst, And happy would be, The vilest and worst May come unto me, May drink of my Spirit, Excepted is none, Lay claim to my merit, And take for his own. Whoever receives The life-giving word, In Jesus believes, His God and his Lord, In him a pure river Of life shall arise, Shall in the believer Spring up to the skies. My God and my Lord! Thy call I obey, My soul on thy word Of promise I stay, Thy kind invitation I gladly embrace, Athirst for salvation, Salvation by grace. O hasten the hour! Send down from above The Spirit of power, Of health, and of love, Of filial fear, Of knowledge and grace, Of wisdom and prayer, Of joy and of praise; The Spirit of faith, Of faith in thy blood, Which saves us from wrath, And brings us to God, Removes the huge mountain Of indwelli...

Quiet, LORD, My Froward Heart

Quiet, LORD, my froward heart, Make me teachable and mild; Upright, simple, free from art, Make me as a weaned child; From distrust and envy free, Pleased with all that pleaseth Thee. What Thou shalt to-day provide, Let me as a child receive; What to-morrow may betide, Calmly to thy wisdom leave: 'Tis enough that Thou wilt care; Why should I the burden bear? As a little child relies On a care beyond his own; Knows he's neither strong nor wise; Fears to stir a step alone; Let me thus with Thee abide, As my Father, Guard, and Guide.   -John Newton

More Like Thee

Change me, O LORD, day by day, More into Thine image, and Thine alone, I pray! More like Thee in what I think, I do, I say. Help others more of Thee to see, Less and less ('till none is left) of me- More into Thine image may I grow to be. Make these more than mere words, LORD! Heal me by Thy mighty Word! Bind me ever closer to Thee, by Thy love's       strong cord. Transform me and mold me, more and more; 'Till I at last stand on Heaven's shore, To dwell with Thee forevermore!

Thy Word

Just a little poem. :)   Thy Word   Thy Word is as a lamp,   To show my stumbling feet the Way!   It illumines the path ahead of me,   Makes it bright as day.   Thy Word is also as a map,   To guide the traveler, sojourned and weary.   It shows which path he ought to take,   If he would dwell in Glory.   Thy Word is ever a trusty sword   To fight in the battles of life!   It is quick, and it cuts to the marrow;   It is sure in the hottest strife.   Thy Word is as a Guidebook sure,   That will guide 'till life's closing scene.   May my name be in Thy Book of Life,   And my life- in Thee- all it should have been.

GOD is Love

"The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, [saying], Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee." Jeremiah 31:3  " 'GOD is love' is written upon every opening bud, upon every spire of springing grass. The lovely birds making the air vocal with their happy songs, the delicately tinted flowers in their perfection perfuming the air, the lofty trees of the forest with their rich foliage of living green- all testify to the tender, fatherly care of our GOD and to His desire to make His children happy."  - Steps to Christ, "GOD'S Love for Man"; pgs. 6,7.  "GOD is love". I have heard it often, as well as the fact that nature greatly testifies to it. But, I must admit I never fully understood it, (and still do not) until recently. Often GOD is looked upon as a tyrant, an unmerciful and exacting judge. We know GOD is not like this, yet how often we fall for satan's lies! When we look ...
